Finding and navigating new trails can be difficult at best. It can be especially difficult if you are not familiar with the area. It is also important to stay on legal trails in order to curb unwanted attention from those who aim to close trails off to dirt bikes. Fortunately, the National Forrest Service produces Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) showing trails, riding areas, and roads that are open to OHV and licensed vehicle use. The problem with MVUMs is that they are very large, unwieldy, and difficult to read on the trail. Fortunately, Avenza has come up with a solution.

The free Avenza app allows users to download Geospatial PDF versions of the Forrest Services Motor Vehicle Use Maps directly to their iPhone or Android phone. What does this mean?

  1. Users will always have a current MVUM available
  2. Zoom and pan through high resolution maps
  3. Find your location within the MVUM by utilizing your phones GPS capability (no cell signal required)
  4. Track and log your rides
  5. Create and name way points
  6. Search through the Avenza store for more detailed topo maps of the region.
  7. And much more!

To download Avenza PDF maps do the following:
